Conference Overview

The Department of Psychology, FIU Chapter of Psi Chi Honor Society and Active Minds are hosting the third annual Psychology Careers and Research Conference. This event will be held on Wednesday October 28th  from 9:00am-3:00pm in the University Park Graham Center Ballroom.

All psychology major, minors and intended majors are strongly encouraged to attend this important event.  Those students planning to start their career upon graduation will have to opportunity to identify what career resources are available to them, access additional resume building knowledge and connect with potential employers that traditionally hire students in from the field of psychology during the morning sessions. For those thinking about going on to graduate school, the afternoon sessions will cover the necessary key areas for preparation, application development and general graduate school planning.

The theme of this year’s conference will be “Golden Opportunities” and the conference agenda will ensure that students are exposed to an array of research and career opportunities throughout the day. 

The conference program will include one general presentation in the morning followed by two break-out sessions. The afternoon session will also include a general presentation followed by two break-out sessions. Each presentation will run a total of 40 min.  Students wanting to earn extra credit must attend at least ONE of these 40 min sessions.




CONFERENCE FEE

Each student attending the conference is required to pay a $7.00 conference registration fee. This fee covers your entrance into the conference, breakfast and lunch. The $7.00 conference fee must be paid in cash. Payments can be made in advance (see REGISTRATION) or on the day of the conference. A Registration Table will be set up at the entrance to the Graham Center Ballroom on the MMC Campus. Each student wishing to attend must pay the conference fee and register before entering the Graham Center Ballroom.

REGISTRATION

Students can register in two ways: 1) in advance beginning October 1st, or 2) at the door on the day of the conference.

For advance registration, students can register online; psych.fiu.edu> click on the conference link and then click on register. Payment must be made at the Department of Psychology's Main Office on the MMC Campus. Request to speak with Tatiana Rodriguez when making payment. Students must provide Tatiana Rodriguez with their name, panther ID, and the conference fee. Each student that pays in advance will be given a receipt. Advanced registration will end at 5:00pm on Tuesday October 27th

EXTRA CREDIT
 
 
A number of Psychology instructors are offering extra credit for attending one of the conference sessions. Please confirm with your instructor that you will earn extra credit for attending; extra credit will not be given if the instructor did not indicate it was an option in advance of the conference date.

Students who are earning for extra credit MUST complete a conference survey/ evaluation form in order to receive a certificate of attendance that will serve as proof of attending the conference. The conference will be broken up into six 40min presentations and the student MUST attend at least ONE session in order to receive a certificate of attendance.
